Our Goals

The Illinois Clean Transportation Standard Coalition

A broad coalition made up of fuel producers, environmental organizations, electric vehicle manufacturers, agricultural producers, and trade groups supports the implementation of an Illinois clean transportation standard built around the following principles:

Principle A: Achieve immediate, verifiable, cost-effective lifecycle greenhouse gas reductions for fuels delivered for use in Illinois through a technology-neutral, market-based program, with co-benefits such as criteria pollutant reductions.

Principle B: Drive technological innovation in the clean fuel sector through long-term regulatory certainty and a stable but flexible credit market.

Principle C: Include opportunities and safeguards to protect environmental outcomes, protect environmental justice communities consistent with the Justice40 Initiative, and ensure that benefits extend to low- and middle-income communities.

Principle D: Provide benefits to consumers by protecting consumer choice, ensuring affordability, and improving access to clean fuels.

Principle E: Provide opportunities and program participation eligibility for agricultural producers that reduce emissions through sustainable agricultural practices and the production of biofuel feedstocks.

Principle F: Provide value to the state of Illinois and a model for other states by establishing a unique Midwestern approach.
